Artist's Statement

Vivian Sloan

I am a watercolour artist living near Kingston, Ontario.  I am captivated by the sheer beauty in creation and try to render the likeness on watercolour paper with the beautiful array of colours on my pallette.

On sunny days I take closeup photographs of my subjects, usually flowers, so that I can pose the shadows in an appealing design.  Then in my studio I work on one petal at a time with plenty of water and let the colours flow and blend.  It is so much fun!

My training involved some courses at St. Lawrence College which was good for theory, but to learn techniques, I attended some workshops with a variety of professional artists. I also joined a local Artist's Association.  I've held classes in my studio to help others learn this remarkable medium.  I hope you enjoy my work!
